There are no box-pushing puzzles, no rooms filled with even slightly complex lever-pulling puzzles. And don't expect another good puzzle like this in the game for a long, long while. It's not a tough puzzle, but at least it's more than a few easy lever pulls. You need to retrieve specific items, place them in the hand of a statue and then adjust a clock according to the various symbols on a door.
One of the very rare complex puzzles comes somewhat early on in the game. So really, it's a matter of following a sensible path, pulling every lever you see, and going through the open doorways. There's no penalty for pulling the wrong one, because there are no wrong levers. Every lever you come across in the game should be pulled. The levers are almost always in plain sight and often in the same room. Yeah, it's that weak.Īlmost every puzzle, if you can even call it that, involves a closed door or gate and finding a lever to open it. And, in truth, most of the puzzles in Buffy (and there weren't many) are more complex than in Indy. The similarities between Buffy and Indy are evident from early on, but where Buffy could get away with simple puzzles and easy-to-avoid traps, Indy is in need of more complexity. The pitfalls, traps, and puzzles are about as basic as can be. That's not to say that Indy is going to tax your brain wattage from the get-go. But it does seem, when you spend more time shooting enemies than avoiding traps, like the game becomes a bit more mindless in the later levels. While a better balance throughout the game might have made for a more appealing package, it's not unbalanced to such an extreme that it hurts gameplay.
The second half is much more action-heavy.
The fist half of this 10+ hour adventure relies heavily on platforming and adventure elements. Puzzles Indiana Jones and The Emperor's Tomb is a tale of two games. The Collective did a great job incorporating the essence of Indiana Jones into The Emperor's Tomb, but the overall game design is lacking ingenuity and falls short of greatness. With his complete skill list at your disposal, you can knock weapons from your enemy's hands using your trusty whip, swing over bottomless pits, and display your pugilistic prowess against scores of foes.

Gameplay In The Emperor's Tomb you gain full control of every boy's idol, Indiana Jones. Of course, Indy would then need to actually have a solid foundation of action and adventure. Action and adventure can sell a game like this. No, the story of Indy getting suckered into going after a legendary artifact, battling maleficent Nazis, and barely escaping the clutches of the denizens of the deep isn't likely to hook you either. I wasn't suddenly sucked into the story, wasn't overly intrigued by who was the dastardly villain behind what, and wasn't at all shocked (or even mildly shocked) at the stunning betrayal that was bound to happen.

Still, the storyline follows a nice progression that, while not up there with the plots of the movie incarnations of Indy, offer a good serial backdrop. Story The Collective didn't overload Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb with cut-scenes and narrative. Mind-boggling Harrison Ford voice double.Grab a whip, Luger, machinegun, Tommygun, machete, grenade, or even a rocket launcher and waste some Nazis.Play as Indiana Jones, your boyhood idol.Ten levels filled with pitfalls, nazis, sharks, and treasure.
While it's no travesty like Kool-Aid Man for Atari 2600, it's no treasured jewel either. Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb is enjoyable, but its flaws outweigh its merits. Unfortunately, those high expectations were not fully met. So, when The Collective, developers of Buffy, turned their attention to Indiana Jones, expectations for the whip-wielding hero began to rise. One title in particular, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, turned out better than just about anyone expected. Of late, licensed titles have seen more good than bad. While some licensed games have been solid titles, it seems for every Jedi Outcast there are two Superman 64's waiting to darken the skies.
